The Mt. Whitney Portal Store and Restaurant offers a wonderful breakfast (til 10:45 AM)...and is a must for Ridgecrest folks and their out-of-town visitors!

Start here...then find Lone Pine and Mt.Whitney!

Store Hours: May 9-6, June 8-8, July 7-9, August 7-9, September 8-8, October 9-6

Annie's pretty special picture of Tommie...taken into the early morning sun!
George's double-take of Darrell's new ride!
Judy sneaking up on Darrell's t-shirt....
Josephine and Nepoleon?
Little Lake reservoir
Annie has a thingy for horses -- as do we all!
Road work at The Ranch House in Olancha held us up for a bit.
(Our two groups were close to merging into one here.)
Hey...we're getting hungry for breakfast.
Let's get this show on the road!
Owens Lake at Olancha
In the "Ole Days"...there were paddle wheelers
carrying smelted gold across the lake to civilization.
Rumor has it that there's one boat full of gold buried out there.

Film Museum -- Lone Pine, CA
Alabama Hills an area famous for the many cowboy six-shooter movies

The "back way" ride to the portals is wonderful and intimate....
That's Lone Pine off in the distance below.
It's only 20 minutes or so from Lone Pine to Whitney Portal and breakfast!
We've arrived!
This tiny pond is very "fishable"!
Judy took this very impressistic photo of reflections in the tiny pond!
Steve getting a hot hand...holding his huge pancake...for Judy to document!
Critters abound!...
Folks reading...and other folks fishing!...
It's a short hike to see the Mt. Whitney waterfall up close
Darrell's new ride!
What the heck is this?
Heading down hill to home! Sigh....
Megan and Karl patiently waiting...
for Judy and Don to recover from making an early turn! ;-)
Note the label on the overhead entrance: "Sex Drive"
Chevron Station south of Lone Pine to gas up
On our way home...the long way...thru Panamint Springs and Trona
Panamint Springs (Go...)
Judy's always got to share something!
This time it was a huge bottle of Arrogant Bastard Ale

I'm not at all bashful...
to ask a pretty young woman...
if I can take her picture to keep with HOG tradition...
and energize our HOG website!
Never took one serving up strawberry ice creame before.
Ah...to be 19 again!
Youth may once have been wasted on the young...
but obviously that's not the case any more! Sheeeeez!...

Relaxing on the Panamint Springs porch
That's the road to Stove Pipe Wells and Furnace Creek and Death Valley to the east
Price gouging in the high desert?
More feminine California gold.
Sometimes there's no time to ask...
I just have to take the picture! ;-)
Judy saw this lone raven...high in a sparsely-leafed desert tree
Vikki and Dwight "messing around"...while keeping control of their bike.
I can't tell you what they were doing...on a family website...
but use your funnist adult imagination! ;-)
Watering hole break in Trona

THE END
Annie and Bobbie saw this road kill scene...
a squirrel was chomping on this road kill rabbit.
But...as a car approached...
the squirrel wouldn't let go of the rabbit...
in time to avoid being "road kill" itself!
No one wants justice...we all want mercy!
